There is no final wisdom to the recipie; just soak chickpeas in water, mince them, and add what you want: herbs, spices, garlic .... I made mine just with some salt, garlic, had fresh thyme around, some paprika powder, and - that one is pretty much a standard addition: coriander and cumin, bit olive oil, and lime juice. I added here for my little snack olives, sundered tomatoes, capers, dried figs.
