watch what you eat -
my humble beginnings of a partly raw or vegan diet
losing fats, losing a belly, losing a double chin is usually a common reason for a change of diet, and will remain forever how people will realize, and widely appreciate our success of diets. and in fact, i am glad to fit in some of my old jeans again, and when people compliment me for a sharper jaw etc etc ... but my clean food journey started with a medical issue: acid reflux ! i was living day and night with it, accepted it as painful fate, until it made me lose my voice - as singing teacher !!! the acid had burnt my entire throat until polyps built below my vocal cords, and the ENT told me that this could turn cancerous. i guess that would be a sufficiently strong argument for anyone ... what to do?answer (and this will be my answer for many more things to come): listen to your body!
everyday, by noon, i would have downed 5 or 6 cups of 3in1 coffee on empty stomach, and at night end the day with a pizza and 3-4 cans of coke ... acid, sugar, milk, and fizz. my stomach must have been good enough for a spooky scene of a witch brewing some nasty bubbly. the day after my strong physical reaction, my morning craving was not as usual the walk to the coffee sachet, in fact, the thought of coffee made me want to throw up. ...
long story short ... since 22.11.2013, no 3in1 coffee has ever crossed my lips anymore. I also cut soft drinks. This alone, no sugared coffee and no soft drink made me lose 8kg in 6 weeks. I calculated, that i had been consuming aroung 60 spoons of sugar daily, and i am neither a chocolate, nor sweet, nor cake person. from then, i replaced coffee and can drinks with water, and wanted to go further. I started learning about food, about what we stuff our bodies with and what it does to our bodies; and with the help of my friend Amanda, i learnt the advantages of raw food. we started a 10day raw food challenge: with one cheat day, we would try to consume only raw fruits , vegetable, nuts, water ... and that's it. my friends all had those expensive juicers at home and were experienced creating a variety of highly nutricious fruit and vegetable juices, but i tried first without that major investment; i snacked on nuts and dried fruits, ate fresh fruits, drank 3-4 liter water a day ... and it was surprisingly for me as beer dinking and bratwurscht nibbling bavarian not so difficult, not a sacrifice, because the reminiscence of the pain of acid reflux and a cancerous vocal box can really keep your cravings for oil, sugar, and fizz down..... there i was, end of 2013, on a nearly fully raw diet, until i decided to buy the slow juicer that would further change my lifestyle .
today, i balance healthy food with my craving for any kinds of food - otherwise this food review blog would be pretty nonsense :) reflux has not returned anymore except in short, self inflected 'eat like a pig' moments, but it is not chronicle anymore.
so this chapter here might give you some inspiration, that a diet doesn't have to be so boring.
