Edge at Pan Pacific Hotel
For several years now, Edge is my favourite buffet in Singapore. Although somehow pricey compared to other buffets, you will find it worth the money experiencing the spread, freshness, and quality of food. A continuous winner for me and many of my friends are the unpretentious little beefsteaks, melting in your mouth, with onion and mushroom sauce. Several cooked and BBQ meats are freshly prepared in front of you, some must even be ordered and will be delivered fresh to your table, which overcomes one of the old buffet problems of food standing around too long - cannot happen here.
Most of the days, there is a wide international spread, then a sushi and Thai corner, as well as an Indian, Indonesian, and Chinese section. This local offers are in my experience often neglected in international hotel restaurants; maybe in an attempt to adapt or 'compromise' the tastes down to an international audience and taste. However, if I want to eat local food, I want to eat it as it should originally taste. If I'm worried, then I wouldn't touch it in the first place. Now here at Edge, Indonesian food and Indian food are really superb; just the right spices, texture, and tenderness of meats. With a wide choice of additional pastes, sambals, gravies you can spice it even more up at your taste.
Presently, Thursday is seafood day with a flow of lobsters, craps, and oysters, and if you are biting your way through the third crap, you have made up for the 88$ damage already, right?
One more winner: many buffets save already on cheese platters. Edge still has several exquisite cheeses on the menu, among all my top blue cheese, Kikorangi from New Zealand. I start my buffet usually with salad and cheese and before the dessert, I close with a cheese platter, and here at Edge I am therefore more than satisfied.
Last but not least .... in-house made pralines !!!! Beside the typical creme brule or mousse, which are also fabulous here, Edge has a sortiment of filled chocolates with various fruit pastes, marcipans, and the absolute indulgence: dark chocolate cubes with rum or with passionfruit creme. Be very thoughtful not to overeat on steaks or paneer and keep stomach space free for these desserts!
and here pictures from the various visits at Edge .... to be continued :)
